The few employees I've spoken to seem to have the same feeling. So far the feedback is good. Should be interesting to see what the rest of the Council thinks.

I've worked something other than 9-5 M thru F for quite a long time and wouldn't want to go back. Having a 3 day weekend every weekend is really nice.

Hmm, you might be onto something RR. Hopefully Providence has an underground cartoonist on the case.

Yup. The expense and waste has always disgusted me. I reused the second batch once but they were falling apart and ended up in a landfill.
Plus I'd rather utilize volunteer hours on something more productive.
One thing I'd kinda miss though... signwaving. Perhaps we'd just end up with homemade ones.

Thanks Matt. I've actually been kicking around the idea for a while but really it's the organizing power of social media that made me think it would be possible. It makes free what used to take a pile of dollars to accomplish. Wish I'd brought it up earlier but maybe being political season it'll be more on people's minds.

Yes! What you said, what Matt said and also this: in addition to wasting dollars -- a staggering amount of dollars, actually -- it is also environmentally wasteful - what the hell do you do with those signs when the election's over? Exactly: garbage. Because we need more garbage. So make it a green thing - all the cool kids are doing it. I think that adds extra buzz in all manner of media because the cause is practical, genunine and about damn time.
I ran (and won) a campaign without using signs as well. As soon as I saw how much they cost and saw piles of them in the garage of another candidate, I decided: I'm not doing that. It's another way of addressing the ridiculous amount of resources it takes to simply be a part of our democratic process.
So, again - Yes. Great idea.
